History of Woody's

Woody's is a Hartford icon who's humble beginnings started in 1977 as a hot dog and ice cream vending truck. Woody's was Established by Gary and Cindy Wood, an ambitious couple who left their successful jobs as a restaurant manager (Gary) and a counselor (Cindy).
We started by purchasing a vending truck, which we drove all over the city of Hartford. What's funny is the vending truck's bell didn't ring, so we would drive around Hartford banging on the bell with a crowbar.
We then upgraded to New York style pushcarts
which were centered in downtown Hartford around the carousel in historical Bushnell Park. Gary designed this cart with a grill and fryer. We offered an array of fixings for our hotdogs. We were the first to offer cheese on our hotdogs, then we created our own special relish . You can view the array of hotdogs on our hotdog menu . Our business really took off when a newspaper ran a favorable article on Woody's delicious hotdog selection. We then expanded to eight carts.
***We moved into our first restaurant called the Coffee Garden in the old Hartford Hilton on Ford Street. We then moved to Main Street and have been at this downtown location for eight years now.***

We offer top quality footlong all beef hotdogs. When we travel, we always make a point of trying out the local hotdogs and other dishes to get ideas to bring back to Connecticut. An example is our delicious Philly Dog, which is a twist of Philadelphia's Philly Steak. Once we develop a delicious combination, we then brain-storm to form a catchy name to capture the character of the hotdog.
We are very active in the community. We have participated with projects sponsored by Hartford Proud and Beautiful, the Riverfront Recapture, the Boys and Girls Club, and the annual Taste of Hartford. We are also excited about the recently opened Adrian's Landing and the Connecticut Convention Center, and invite the many tourists from around the world to dine at our establishment. We guarantee you a fun and delicious experience that will make your visit memorable.
Owning a hot dog restaurant is fun and a business where you can be yourself. Our customers enjoy eating here. We have an extensive Miami Dolphins display . We are diehard fans due to our winter stay in Miami back during our pushcart days.
